I find the shape of an A-line skirt truly romantic, flattering on all body shapes and its ability to cast a touch of femininity to even the grungiest looks simply ingenious. That alone has beguiled me into buying this bronze Nichii skirt that is absolutely smooth to the touch. Believe it or not, I already had mental images of this skirt becoming the next best friend of my wardobe before even making the purchase.

Pairing with all of my favourite items together: lace top, oxford heels, crossbody bag and colourful stackable bracelets; scepticism took the better of me initially but by not conforming to de rigueur of fashion, I find that I actually surprised myself when they somehow work together. Admittedly, I was having a fashion greed moment that day, which wasn't such a bad thing after all until the security guard came to chase me off thinking I wasn't a resident in the neighbourhood, and worse, thought I was doing some commercial photography without permission.

Bargain Hunt

When I was informed by my colleague of a fashion bazaar happening in town, I psyched myself up for the madness that was about to happen. Perhaps, it's because when I think of bazaar, I think of women fighting and snatching over reduced-priced merchandise, much like a scene in the film, Confessions of A Shopaholic. In contrast, the 10th installation of Markets @ Jaya One, Petaling Jaya held yesterday was far from what I envisioned - no pushing and snatching but the heat was putting me off.

To be honest, the apparels on sale were not as cheap as I thought they would be, though many were very funky and different from those sold in the highstreet. If you're looking for street style fashion items, the Markets had lots of that, given over 50 vendors were online fashion stores. The jewelry on the other hand, were great buys, so I ended up buying five items for a total of RM55!

Moon E-Store airplane necklace; RM5
Le Thiuy skull earrings; RM10
Le Thiuy spike bracelet; RM10
Le Thiuy geometric earrings; RM10
Le Thiuy claw ring; RM20; similar here

For those who didn't make it to the bazaar yesterday, look out for the next one as it happens every quarter of the year. But if you can't for wait it, you could grab some cool stuff from their online stores instead. Here is the complete list:

DIY: Revive Dried Out Gel Eyeliner

Over the years with the advice of makeup artists and commercials that pushed the sales of a cosmetic product known as eyeliner, it has since become a staple in women's everyday makeup routine. But with so many different formula, all of which are used to define the eyes, gel eyeliner seems the most versatile - can be used as an eyeshadow base or to create different textures; from crisp fine line to a smoky eye. It also functions as an amazing transition between pencil and liquid eyeliners.

Then again, it is a given that such formula has its downside - drying out quickly. At best, a pot of gel eyeliner can last six months before having to replace the cracked and hardened eyeliner that look a lot like a dried out bottle of Buncho watercolour with a brand new one.

But before you toss your gel eyeliner into the thrash and spend RM30 or more on a new pot of gel eyeliner which will also dry out in another six months, try this simple method of reviving your dried out gel eyeliner. Just give it a shot since you've got nothing to lose.

You'll need:

  • A dried out gel eyeliner
  • A ziplock bag OR a plastic bag and a clip
  • A bowl of hot water

Methods:

1. Ensure that the pot of gel eyeliner is tightly closed. Then put it into a ziplock bag and seal it tightly.

2. Next, submerge the bag containing the gel liner into a bowl of hot water for 10-15 minutes.

3. Finally, take the bag out of the water and remove the gel eyeliner from the bag and you've got a brand new pot of gel eyeliner. (Repeat steps 1 and 2 if necessary.)
Left: Before; dry and hardened
Right: After; soft, moist and easy to apply

I know the photo above did not really do much justice to the revived eyeliner but I can assure you that it was soft and butterry to the touch that I could almost eat it. Well, maybe not.

For those who are pressed for time, I have another method up my sleeves. Simply microwave the dried out gel eyeliner for 10 seconds and it'll produce similar results as the previous method. However, I don't recommend this method if the lid of the pot is made of plastic as it would melt.

Good luck! And if all else fails, at least you can be proud of yourself for trying and highly deserve to reward yourself with a spanking new pot of gel eyeliner that glides on like a dream.
