Colour Blinding Blazer

"What you wear is how you present yourself to the world especially today, when human contacts are so quick.
Fashion is instant language.”—Miuccia Prada

We've all borrowed from our mother, sister, friend (and even our boyfriend's) closet a tailored blazer for a very important job interview, boardroom meeting or university presentation that accounts for 50 percent of our overall grade. Of course, we want to look polished and professional at nailing the task at hand, but often times, the borrowed blazer is ill-fitting, looks sloppy and comes in dull grey or black.

For years I've been complaining that the blazer only comes in boring neutral shades and I'm liberated to find that the fashion world has finally responded to my plight (what took you so long?) The traditional, classic piece that one only wears when one means business has now been updated with bold, bright hues to add pizzazz to any outfit. It's suitable for casual outdoor activities, date nights and even drinks with your favourite girls (and boys) at your local bars. Likewise, don't be afraid to rock this statement piece to work. Even if your office has a dress code, you could still be a rebel and opt for a light, pastel coloured blazer as a safer option.

Revamp your intellectual style with a dash of fun in these trendy coloured blazers and still feel as powerful as Michelle Obama.

Keep the rest of your ensemble to a minimal when it comes to styling a coloured blazer unless you're a pro at colour blocking or mixing and matching prints. When in doubt, merely style your blazer with an all-white or all-black ensemble and you'll still have eyes fixated on your impeccable style.

I was feeling a little blue today (pun intended) so I decided to put on my royal blue blazer over a simple white tee and pink shorts (working the colour blocking trend) for a casual lunch date with my best friend. Boy, did I instantly feel like royalty in my light-weighted boyfriend blazer that I've been wearing with everything this summer. It's amazing how a simple blazer adds interest to a rather boring outfit.

If you're wondering whether this trend is worth investing in because fashion is fickle, I say go for it. Given blazer is a classic piece, its candy colours will take you through from spring/summer to autumn/winter as it brightens up your summer wardrobe and adds a pop of colour to your dark, monochromatic winter ensemble. Hence, every woman should own a well-fitted blazer in a colour that makes her feel comfortable, confident and powerful as it instantly smartens up any look effortlessly.

This floral print blazer is just too cute to pass and it's the perfect spring/summer blazer which would never be dated as floral is a spring/summer staple print. The print reminds me of the colourful flowers that looked unreal at the park I used to run when I was in England last year which made me feel like Alice in Wonderland.

Skater Dress: From the Ice to the Runway

If you are one who have a difficult time finding the perfect dress that flatters your body, then you ought to try a skater dress, which nips in at the waist, has a fitted bodice and circle skirt. Skater dress is popular this summer and we have Sonja Henie, a ten time world figure skating champion to thank for introducing us to this flattering dress that we saw gracing the fashion runways.

Designers drew inspirations from the sports arena and put their modern twists into the fashion world when the skater dress first appeared in Stella McCartney and Dior Spring 2010 ready-to-wear collections as well as Versus Fall 2010 ready-to-wear collection. Since then, the skater dress has skated its way into high street stores and it's still a summer staple dress. So, turn heads this summer in this fabulous number available in short, flirtatious hemlines in lace, whimsical prints or trendy colours. Here are my top 10 picks ranging from RM28-RM65:

The skater dress is the epitome of femininity with its beautiful and flirtatious silhouette that flatters all body shapes - whether to accentuate or fake a desirable hourglass figure. I love that this dress can be worn at all occasions. Dress it up by putting on a pair of stilettos and a clutch and you're good to go for a night out in town with your girlfriends. You could even dress it down as a day summer dress by pairing it with sandals or loafers and a cross-body bag like what I did when I went sightseeing at Bukit Tinggi. You don't need to put on a pair of skates to make this dress work, but you could always wear a skater dress the next time you go for ice skating and bring out the figure skater in you!

Colour My Denim Happy

You've seen them in every bold, bright colours you could think of: pink, red, teal, coral, yellow magenta, etc. They've become so popular in recent years and perhaps already made headway to your closet as a spring/summer staple.

Coloured jeans were almost impossible to find in high street stores few years ago as they haven't caught up with the trend until last summer. Now, most hight street brands carry them in rainbow colours with lower price tags compared to designer brands like True Religion, J Brand and Rag & Bone. However, they can be a little overwhelming, which is why I find the addition of coloured denim shorts into this trend a genius, especially for Malaysia's scorching heat.

Coloured denim shorts can still be bold and fun without the length and a lot less daunting with a peek of colour, particularly for those who are not much of a risk taker in fashion but still want to stay on trend. So, why not take this opportunity to snag your perfect pair during the 1 Malaysia Mega Sale happening now.

The thought of candy-coloured shorts brighten up any outfit got me jumping into the bandwagon; I purchased a pair in yellow from Cotton On. It was great to have a friend shopping with me the other day as I wouldn't be forced into the deal of buying two pairs of shorts when I only wanted one. Essentially, it only costed me RM37.50; what a steal!

The denim shorts was put to test last weekend when I went to Fraser's Hill for a short vacation. I went for horse riding, archery and sightseeing in it and it proved to be very comfortable. No qualms at all about the shorts riding up a single bit particularly after I got off of the horse.

I paired it with a vintage flower print top (rocking the bold print trend at the same time) for an extra splash of colour to enliven my mood.
